High-Speed Ethernet – Hands-On System Development
Ethernet builds the foundation for today’s information and communication technology. It has been standardized by the IEEE for a range of link speeds and physical media and plays an important role in many applications. Its accessibility and performance aided in its utilization for different networks such as LANs and WANs and its deployment in custom solutions and many application areas.
This three day PLC2 Workshop aims at enabling participants to develop Ethernet based custom solutions. Based on the OSI reference model participants will extend and consolidate their Ethernet knowledge and their knowledge of important network protocols such as the Internet Protocol suite. XILINX specific Ethernet solutions and their PS/PL partitioning will be discussed and assessed based on available XILINX DMA solutions. External Ethernet PHY management will be covered as well in this context. During the workshop an Ethernet based custom control protocol for a remote data generator will be specified, developed and implemented on provided XILINX eval boards.
The performances of potential system designs will be investigated and assessed. Debugging techniques are introduced for design testing purposes. The resulting communication protocol can be developed further to be used for subsequent custom remote applications.
